Iliani’s Tutoring Terms & Conditions

Please read these Terms before booking a trial or buying tutoring. By using this website or booking a lesson, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

1. Who we are

Iliani Education Group Limited ("Iliani", "we", "us") is a company registered in Hong Kong, company number 78627509. You can reach us at info@ilianieg.com.

In these Terms, "you" means the parent or legal guardian using this site, and "the Student" means the child who receives tutoring and mentoring.

2. What these Terms cover

These Terms cover your use of the website and your free trial lesson.

If you buy tutoring, that is governed by our Tutoring Services Agreement, which you will enter into separately. It covers scheduling, cancellations, package validity, fees and refunds.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your information and the Student’s. Our Safeguarding Policy explains how we keep Students safe. Both are published on our website and form part of these Terms.

We may update these Terms. The version on this page is the one that applies. If a change materially affects you, we will email you. Changes do not apply to lessons you have already paid for.

3. Who can use our services

You must be 18 or over and able to enter a binding contract. Students below 18 cannot sign up themselves. By booking, you confirm you are the Student’s parent or legal guardian, or are otherwise authorised to make decisions about their education and to give us their information.

We currently offer tutoring and mentoring to Students aged 11 to 17. We may consider Students outside this range at our discretion, and we may decline any booking.

4. Your free trial

The trial is one complimentary lesson of about 30 minutes, roughly half a standard lesson. It is limited to one per Student.

The trial does not start a subscription or a package automatically. Neither of us is obliged to continue after the trial. We may also decline to take a Student on where we do not think we are the right fit. Should you wish to join our tutoring service after the trial, we will arrange the package details and sign the Services Agreement.

Trials depend on tutor availability. We will confirm yours by email or phone, and we may need to reschedule. Please give us at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel, since your tutor reserves the time and prepares in advance.

5. We provide the tutoring

We are not a marketplace. We provide tutoring and mentoring services to you directly, and we are responsible to you for delivering them.

We engage tutors to deliver lessons on our behalf, and we select them through our own recruitment, vetting and safeguarding process. All lessons run on the Iliani platform or another channel we approve in writing.

Tutoring is sold in packages of ten lessons unless we agree otherwise. Prices are as shown when you buy, payable in Hong Kong dollars by bank transfer or credit card.

We aim to keep the same tutor for a whole package. If a tutor becomes unavailable, we will match a replacement and hand over the lesson plan, progress notes and learning objectives so the Student does not start again. We guarantee continuity of the programme. We cannot guarantee the continued availability of one particular person.

6. Mentoring

Every lesson combines subject tutoring with mentoring, in a ratio of roughly 80 percent tutoring to 20 percent mentoring. This split is indicative rather than fixed, and will vary with what the Student needs on the day and the tutor’s judgement.

Mentoring follows the Iliani Compass, a set of six age-appropriate themes we work through across the year, including study skills, time and habits, confidence, subject choices, university life, and interests. We touch one Compass point in each lesson and log it in the lesson summary, so you can see what was covered. You will also receive a monthly progress report.

Mentoring at Iliani means encouragement, study guidance and honest conversation about school and university, drawn from the tutor’s own experience. It is a role model relationship, not a professional one. Our tutors are not counsellors, therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, careers advisers or university admissions consultants, and they do not hold professional qualifications in those fields. Nothing said in a mentoring conversation is professional advice. If the Student needs professional support of that kind, please seek it from a qualified professional. We can adjust or pause the mentoring element while that happens.

7. Keeping Students safe

Our tutors are vetted, trained and required to follow our safeguarding policy. They must keep professional boundaries and use only Iliani-approved channels.

Tutors talk to Students only in scheduled lessons on the Iliani platform. They will not reply between lessons, will not exchange personal phone numbers or email addresses, and will not connect on social media. This protects the Student and the tutor equally.

If a Student tells a tutor something that suggests they or another person may be at risk, the tutor must pass it to our Designated Safeguarding Lead, and we may tell you or the appropriate authority. Please explain this to your child, so that it is not a surprise to them.

We ask that a parent or guardian is contactable during lessons with a Student, and that lessons happen in a shared or supervised space.

If a safeguarding concern arises, we may suspend lessons, restrict communication, change tutors, contact you, or refer the matter to the appropriate authority. We may act without notice where waiting would create risk.

You remain responsible for the Student’s care and supervision outside lessons. Nothing here transfers parental responsibility to us.

To raise a safeguarding concern, please contact Iliani and refer to its contact information on the website.

8. Recordings

Every lesson is recorded on the Iliani platform. We do this to protect both the Student and the tutor, and to support quality and safeguarding.

Recordings are held securely and viewed only by authorised Iliani staff, under our access policy, for quality assurance, tutor supervision, safeguarding, or investigating a complaint or incident. We do not use them for marketing or any other commercial purpose, and we do not share them with anyone else unless we are required to by law, or it is necessary to protect a Student, or to respond to a dispute or an authority.

Tutors do not have access to recordings of their own lessons. How long we keep recordings, and the security measures that protect them, are set out in our Privacy Policy.

Please do not make your own recordings, screenshots or livestreams of a lesson without our written consent. We ask the same of our tutors.

9. Please do not engage our tutors privately

We recruit, vet, train and supervise our tutors, and our safeguarding protections only cover lessons booked through us.

While you are working with us, and for 12 months after your last lesson, please do not engage any tutor we introduced you to, directly or through anyone else, outside Iliani.

If a tutor is engaged outside Iliani, our safeguarding policies, complaints process and quality checks do not apply, and we are not responsible for that arrangement.

10. What we can and cannot promise

We will deliver tutoring and mentoring with reasonable skill and care.

We cannot promise a particular grade, exam result, school place or university offer.

Our tutors explain, review, give examples and help the Student reach their own answers. They will not do a Student’s homework, coursework, assessments or exams, and will decline if asked. Please do not ask them to. The Student is responsible for the work they submit and for their school’s academic honesty rules.

Tutoring supports school education. It does not replace it.

11. Using the website

Please use the site lawfully. We may take the site or platform down for maintenance and cannot promise it will always be available.

12. Our materials

Our website content, lesson plans, worksheets, summaries and reports belong to us or our licensors. You and the Student may use anything we provide for the Student’s own learning. Please do not share, publish, resell or use it commercially.

Work the Student produces in a lesson belongs to the Student.

13. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these Terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited under Hong Kong law.

Otherwise, we are not responsible for losses that were not reasonably foreseeable, for problems caused by your internet connection or device, for academic or personal outcomes, or for any arrangement you make with a tutor outside Iliani.

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability to you will not exceed the greater of the fees you paid us in the twelve months before the problem arose, or HK$5,000.

14. If something goes wrong

If you are unhappy with anything, please email us at info@ilianieg.com. We will acknowledge within 3 working days and aim to respond properly within 3 working days.

We may suspend or end your access if you or the Student breach these Terms or the Services Agreement seriously, behave abusively towards our people, leave fees unpaid after we have asked, or if we need to protect a Student.

We are not liable for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as internet outages, illness, extreme weather or government action. If a lesson is affected, we will reschedule it at no cost and it will not come out of your package.

Except for our directors, staff, tutors and contractors, who may enforce clauses 9, 12, and 13, nobody who is not a party to these Terms may enforce them under the Contracts (Rights of Third Parties) Ordinance (Cap. 623).

If any part of these Terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we do not enforce something straight away, we can still enforce it later. We will send notices to the email address you register with us, so please keep it current.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region, and the Hong Kong courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute.
